Diesel engine is widely used in the field, which has the characteristics of long continuous working time and high power demand. Limited by its own technological development, new energy can only be widely used in specific market segments, such as buses, municipal vehicles, wharf tractors and so on.

Due to the lack of energy density of lithium battery, pure electric technology is still difficult to be popularized and applied in the field of heavy commercial vehicles. Taking the heavy tractor with a total weight of 49 tons as an example, according to the actual use conditions of the current market, if pure electric technology is adopted, the power of lithium battery used in the whole vehicle needs to reach 3000 degrees. Even according to the national planning goal, the total weight of lithium battery still reaches about 11 tons, the cost is about 3 million yuan, and the charging time is very long, so it has no practical value.

Hydrogen fuel cell technology is considered as a possible technical development direction in the power field of heavy commercial vehicles, but at present, the preparation, transportation, storage and filling of hydrogen are difficult to support the popularization and use of hydrogen fuel cells. According to the estimation of the international hydrogen energy organization, the proportion of fuel cells in the field of heavy commercial vehicles will not exceed 20% by 2050.

The rapid development of new energy technology objectively forced the diesel engine industry to speed up technology upgrading and product replacement. New energy and diesel engine will complement each other for a long time. They are not a simple zero sum game.
