The annual Boao Forum for Asia was held in Boao, Hainan on March 26. According to data released by Li Baodong, Secretary-General of the Board of Governors of the Boao Forum for Asia, at a press conference on 26 September, Asia has become the fastest growing region in the global economy, contributing 60% to world GDP growth in the past 10 years. Li Baodong said, "This is a great contribution and deserves the pride of the people of all countries in Asia." Bloomberg News Agency said Tuesday that the Boao Forum for Asia will show the pace of China's reform, especially in the context of the critical moment of Sino-US trade negotiations.

The theme of the annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia in 2019 is "common destiny, common action and common development". At a press conference held on the morning of 26 June, Li Baodong said that more than 2,000 delegates from 60 countries and regions participated in this year's annual meeting. On 28, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council of China will attend the opening ceremony of the Forum together with the leaders of Lao Prime Minister Toronto Sisuri, Luxembourg Prime Minister Bethel, Sao Tome and Principe Prime Minister Jesuz and South Korean Prime Minister Li Luoyuan.

Four major academic reports of the Boao Forum for Asia were released at a press conference on the morning of June 26: the Annual Report on the Development of Emerging Economies in 2019, the Annual Report on the Process of Asian Economic Integration in 2019, the Annual Report on Asian Competitiveness in 2019, and the First Annual Report on Asian Financial Development. Taiwan's United News Network reported Tuesday that among 37 economies in the Asia-Pacific region, the "Asian Four Little Dragons" ranked the top four in the "Asian Competitiveness" ranking, South Korea ranked the first, Taiwan China ranked the second, two places higher than the previous year, leading Singapore and Hong Kong China, Japan ranked the fifth, and China ranked the ninth for six consecutive years. The report points out that although China's economy has been greatly impacted by trade frictions between China and the United States, which is characterized by high and low levels and steady and moderate growth, it still shows a strong anti-shock capability, giving full play to the role of the mainstay of Asian economy.

I believe that a slight slowdown in China's economic growth is a trend, but it is also the right trend. Even if it slows down, China's economic growth rate is still twice that of the United States and other industrialized countries. Kent Colder, director of the Rice Shore East Asia Research Center at Johns Hopkins University in the United States, said at the Boao Forum for Asia on the 26th that China's technological change and financial development have given new impetus to economic growth.

At the annual meeting of the Boao Forum for Asia held in April last year, President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech, putting forward a series of major measures for opening up from four aspects: greatly relaxing market access, creating a more attractive investment environment, strengthening intellectual property protection, and initiatively expanding imports. He emphasized that "sooner or later, sooner or later, faster or slower". Colder said on the 26th that he remembered President Xi's major initiatives last year: "China has taken important steps to open up and started to strengthen the protection of intellectual property rights. During the recent two sessions of the CPPCC and CPPCC, the Foreign Investment Law was passed, which I think is very important. China's pledge to deregulate the financial sector last year is now being implemented, and similar measures have taken place in the automotive industry, Bloomberg said Wednesday. Premier Li Keqiang will attend the Boao Forum for Asia and may further mention China's opening measures or policies to boost confidence in China's opening up.

Among the more than 50 discussions in the five major sectors of the forum, China's economy is still the most concerned topic. Gerlach, Vice Minister of the Ministry of economic development of Italy, on the afternoon of 26, on the sub forum of "70 years and 40 years' memory and entering the new era of China", said that Italy, as a member of the group of seven (G7), took the lead in joining China's "one belt and one road" initiative, which is to make up for the delay. In the past 10 to 15 years, compared with Germany, Britain, France and other European countries, Italy and China have lagged behind in their commercial relations. Gerlach said that European countries are willing to join the "one belt and one way" initiative. Italy has set an example in this regard. It is a reflection of Italy's leadership as a member of G7 and a major member of the European Union. It is believed that under the example of Italy, more EU countries will sign similar agreements with China.
