Under the impact of the new crown epidemic, the tourism industry has stopped, European and American clothing orders have been cancelled, and air traffic has declined dramatically Cambodia's economic development faces many challenges. In the face of difficulties, Chinese enterprises continue to invest and guarantee production in Cambodia, overcome difficulties with Cambodians, provide impetus for Cambodia's economic rebound and build a solid foundation.

The reporter learned from the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia that in the first quarter of this year, the bilateral trade volume between China and Cambodia reached 2.03 billion US dollars, an increase of 1.7% year on year. According to Cambodia's official statistics, in the first four months of this year, Cambodia exported 122000 tons of rice to China, an increase of 28% year on year.

Wang Wentian, Chinese ambassador to Cambodia, told Xinhua News Agency recently that affected by the epidemic, the cross-border flow of personnel and materials is not smooth, the supply chain is difficult to operate effectively and normally, and economic cooperation is more difficult. Nevertheless, the fundamentals of long-term economic and trade cooperation between China and Cambodia have not changed, and they have shown strong resilience. Under the normalization of epidemic prevention and control, China Cambodia economic and trade cooperation has been actively promoted in a flexible and stable way.

In April 9th, one belt, one road, was held in video format. The second sides reached a broad consensus on the contents of the agreement. They completed consultations in the fields of "one belt and one road" initiative cooperation, investment cooperation, economic and technological cooperation, e-commerce and some legal issues. They agreed to continue to adopt various ways including video conferencing to speed up the progress of negotiations.

Meanwhile, one belt, one road project and the Huimin project jointly constructed by China and Cambodia have been promoted steadily during the epidemic. The Phnom Penh Xigang expressway is in its infancy. After its completion, it will open the capital economic circle and Sihanouk port, Cambodia's largest deep-water port, to promote Cambodia's logistics efficiency and shorten its transportation time. The main construction of China aided Cambodia National Stadium has been completed and entered the decoration stage, which will become the main venue of the 2023 Southeast Asian Games. The hospital building of China aided Cambodia tebenkmont province has been built; Huawei and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia have further deepened 5g cooperation, completed network test with 5 local operators, and will help Cambodia build 5g network as soon as possible.

Wang Wentian said that Cambodia is still a market worthy of Chinese investors' adherence. "I believe that when the epidemic is further controlled and improved, the economic and trade cooperation between China and Cambodia is expected to take the lead in getting back on track and show a stronger vitality.".

In Sihanouk Province, the construction of Xigang coal-fired power plant project jointly developed by China Huadian Hong Kong Co., Ltd. and Cambodia International Investment Development Group Co., Ltd. was carried out smoothly. Xie Yiming, deputy general manager of the project company, told reporters that about 100 Cambodian employees have been recruited for on-site construction. In the second half of this year, with more participating units entering the construction site, the number of workers in the peak period of construction is expected to exceed 2000, which will further boost domestic employment and economic and social development in Cambodia.

Despite the impact of the epidemic, China's investment in Cambodia's energy, transportation, telecommunication facilities, sports and health not only directly promotes economic development, but also continuously improves the local business environment, laying the foundation for economic rebound.
