Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said Tuesday that Japan has put forward a proposal on how to "break through" US sanctions against Iran. Rohani ended his visit to Japan that day. After returning to Iran, he said: "The Japanese side made new proposals for breaking the sanctions, and we also have new proposals. We discussed these and decided to continue consultations on this matter. " He did not disclose the contents of the proposal. Rohani Rohani, the first Iranian president to visit Japan since 2000, wrote on social media "twitter" after his 20-day meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe: "I welcome any efforts that will help promote economic engagement, especially in the energy sector, as well as the growth of oil exports. " ANBE's visit to Iran in June was the first by a Japanese prime minister in 40 years. Japan was a major importer of Iranian crude oil for many years until the US government withdrew from the Comprehensive Agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue last year and resumed sanctions against Iran. Japanese media reported that Anbe was trying to use the good relations between Japan, the United States and Iraq to help ease U.S.-IRAN relations. Anbe and Rohani met on the 20th to seek understanding over Japan's sending a Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force to the Middle East. On the 21st, Rouhani said, "Japan has announced that it will not participate in the U.S. security plan in the region... we welcome it. " After the U.S. pulled out of the Iran nuclear agreement, it invited allies and other countries to form a "convoy alliance" in the Gulf region, against Iran. The Japanese government, which is not part of the coalition, will deploy a destroyer and a patrol aircraft in the Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea and Gulf of Aden, but away from the Strait of Hormuz, near Iran. Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported earlier that the US had told Japan it would accept Rohani's visit and had asked Japan to inform it of Anbe's meeting with Rohani. On the evening of the 21st, Abe spoke with the President of the Donald Trump by phone for about an hour and 15 minutes. Anbe told reporters he and Donald Trump discussed the situation on the Korean Peninsula. Anbe also briefed Donald Trump on his meeting with Rohani, saying Japan would maintain close cooperation with the U.S. and continue to use diplomatic means to ease tensions in the Middle East, Kyodo reported.
